1

The fact is that children, even those who share biological parents and are raised in the same environment, differ on many dimensions. And children themselves recognize these differences early in development.

A) In other words, the unique characteristics that differentiate children in turn get represented and reinforced in the culture.

B) At this point in time, children become keenly interested in gender-role information in the culture. The actively search for cultural meanings about gender in their homes, on the playground, and in the mass media.

C) For example, children become aware of their own gender by around age 2. By kindergarten, they begin to recognize gender as a social category that does not change based on hair length, dress, and other superficial qualities.

When you find a professor with a good reputation for teaching, remember that you are this person's main incentive for teaching.

A) So, even the poor teacher is grateful for a supportive student. It goes without saying that the supportive student will be rewarded with personal attention and even, perhaps, friendship and will often get a better deal when grading time comes around.

B) Such outstanding professors in the academic scene must get their emotional rewards from their interaction with students. You can become a rewarding person for your professors.

C) Giving emotional support is also important in the case of poor teachers because, despite the irrelevance of student opinions to career, it is still pretty unpleasant to get up 12 hours a week in front of an obviously uninterested audience.

When we think about ourselves and others, certain areas are activated in our brains.

A) For example, if you are asked to imagine whether or not a historical figure like Christopher Columbus would know what an MP3 player is, this type of question activates these socially sensitive networks. This is because you have to infer the mindset of Columbus and imagine what he would think.

B) Harvard neuroscientist Jason Mitchell, one of the new vanguard of researchers in the filed of social cognitive neuroscience, has pointed out that there is good evidence that there may be four to six regions that form networks that are consistently activated in social situations and not in other types of problem solving.

C) However, if you ask whether an MP3 player is smaller than a bread bin, these areas remain silent. This is because the question now becomes a perceptual judgement based on your knowledge about the size relationship between different physical objects.
